Casa Melograno

ABOUT US

Casa Melograno is the home of Tamás and Réka. The Hungarian couple has been running their own hotel management company in Budapest for many years, and personalized, high-quality hospitality is part of their life. They travel a lot in their free time, and they always choose special, unique accommodations for themselves. They like to relax in an environment that provides the warmth of home.

They bought Casa Melograno in 2023 in order to fulfill their old dream of creating their second home in the heart of Tuscany. After the purchase they already planned to transform the house, keeping its characterful features typical of the landscape. The total renovation was completed by July 2024.

Réka has been working as an interior designer and stylist for many years, and in her own company she also deals with designing the interiors of hotels, restaurants, and event venues. She believes that everything is about the small details, and the objects around us have their own life and affect us with their energy.

Furniture and accessories of Casa Melograno have been carefully selected and come from a wide variety of places and eras.

The essence of the "art & vintage tour" concept is that the guests can get familiar with the history of the objects during their stay, and if they are open and attentive enough, they can hear their messages.

Casa Melograno reflects the couple's taste and style, their passion for vintage objects, and their love and respect for the Tuscan landscape.

ABOUT CASTELFALFI

CASTELFALFI

Castelfalfi’s origins go back to Etruscan times but the first evidence of the place-name “Castello di Falolfo”, which later became Castelfalfi, dates back to 754 A.D. in the midst of the Lombard era, when the two towers in the upper part of the village were built.

In 1230, from a small free commune Castelfalfi passed under the jurisdiction of the nearby San Miniato. In the 15th century there were 35 families living in Castelfalfi, and the main economic activity was agriculture, particularly vine and olive growing. It was at that time that the area occupied by the ancient Lombard towers was transformed by the Gaetani family, which owned a large part of Castelfalfi. It was Giovannfrancesco Caetani and his wife Costanza De’ Medici who gave the castle area its current appearance.

The village of Castelfalfi is dominated on one side by its castle while on the other stands the Church of San Floriano. With its Romanesque origins, the Church has been architecturally transformed over the ages until it reached its current conformation. From 1491 the Church came under the control of the Chapter of Santa Maria del Fiore of Florence, which also owned much of Castelfalfi’s agricultural heritage.

Another notable building is the “palazzotto” at the entrance of the village, today known as “Villa del Borgo”: in the 15th century it was an oil mill owned by the Bardi family; in the 17th century it became a town house, then a property of Desideri family, which bought it along with many other buildings in the village, including the castle at the end of the 18th century. In the mid-19th century, the Biondi family became the owner of almost the entire village and a large part of the agricultural heritage, also because of the kinship link with the Tornaquinci family, which had in turn acquired in the mid-18th century what was owned by the Chapter of Santa Maria del Fiore.

The Biondi family and especially the figure of Antonio Biondi, who was a distinguished botanist, enriched Castelfalfi with the Italian garden that is still visible in front of San Floriano’s Church.
